Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. What a week its been and next week is looking to be a bit silly as well.
I think the people that got the most out of the crazy winds that we’ve been having are probably the pole-surfers and those that swing both ways like Marlow and Paul.
The biggest loosers were the learners and kite schools.

I must admit that I got pretty bored with the high gusty winds after a hour into each session.
A few easy days wouldn’t go a miss and then the odd hang time sesh, but it seems to be all or nothing at the moment.

Also with the big winds comes the accidents. luckily we have avoided any major mishaps.
The odd person putting up a kite to big for the conditions and thats about it.
Once again the reports of all the trouble at Lancing come around every time we get big conditions.
Such as people going missing, runaway kites and people getting dragged into groins.

Read Kevs Take on the weekend @ Kiteboarder.co.uk
Also a guy got airlifted to hospital over the weekend at Witterings, after a bad launch sent him head first into the concrete groin. again see Kiteboarder.co.uk

Anywayz Looking forward to an easy downwinder, possibly over the weekend.

And the wind blows on and on and on.

How good has it been this year. I cant believe the amount of time we’re getting on the water.
When we had that quite spell for several weeks, I thought “ok it’s gonna be one of them summers”.
So I brought a mountain bike, got a gym membership and a longboard.
To be honest I have hardly used any off them.
We are getting out around 2 - 4 times a week at the moment, so when its not blowing I just want to rest my old joints.
I go down the gym and only sit in the jacuzzi, I put my skateboard in the car the other day and took it for a drive, and I moved my bike out of the way. I think I’ll have an end of season sale.

I dont know how many of you are like me, but I remember having 2 kites and thats it. Tonight I emptied my car and there were 5 kites in there, I got 6 bars, 4 harness’s, a twin-tip, a bic surfboard, 3 wetsuits and a box of all sorts of kiting nick nacks.
The thing is; I more or less only ride my Ion 8.5. HOW DO WE MANAGE TO COLLECT SO MUCH CRAP?

Other Stuff

If anybody is about to purchase some goods from Whitstable Windsurfing/ Boardworx Please let me or Big Van Paul know as he has a credit note worth around £130 he’d like to get rid of.

There are a lot of new kiters about at the moment, and we all remember the days when we were totally shit,(BAM still is) If you see someone struggling or getting it a bit wrong, remember it dont hurt just to kite over and ask if they are ok.Thats why most of us kite at Goring, because its friendly. (unless crazy Paul is about)

If you are one of the newer kiters to Goring and you are worried about a kiter that keeps kitelooping in your direction. dont worry thats just Dangerous Dave. Its normal.

Come on you guys, you must want to slate someone or something on the Forum Its very quite out there.I’ll go first and slate Naish.

See ya.

Hi All

Well Its good to get a bit of sunshine, although I’d prefere wind. I suppose you gotta let the girls get out in the back gardens for a bit of tan topping up.
The last couple of weeks have been pretty good, with wind coming through most evenings.
I think I got out last week 4 days in a row on my 8.5 and 1 day On a 12mtr.
Saturday looked promising, some managed a couple of hours in the morning until it switched Northly, but it did blow again later in the day. Thanks to the sunshine being out, it looked like a kitesurfers picknick on the green with people hanging around the whole day in hope that it would swing round and build.
Also at the beginning of this week it came through for a small kite session.

This weekend doesn’t look so good but hopefully there will be a chance of a seabreeze, so keep your eye on the tree’s for a hint of movement, and maybe i’ll see you on the green.

Deals

Its that time of year again for checking out the gear for 2009 and getting some 2008 bargains.
i do know that there are some good deals around at the moment.

AirHead are the premier Flexifoil dealers in the South with all kites and boards from the flexi range available to demo.

They also also have the 2008 Airush Protoy available to demo. This one I would recomend. I am now riding this board and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Another awsome kite on the market are the Nobile Kites 555/666. I have demo’d both of these kites, and they are very impressive.
nobile_nhp_666_2008.jpg
If your one of the many Landboarders now riding at Goring, where some of Britians top riders (Mark Berry, Lewis Wilby) frequantly ride. Don’t forget AirHead Stock all sorts of landbased kites, landboards and various spares.

Our Spot

Well what another good week this has been, kind of unbelievable really.
to come back from a holiday and have the opportunity to kite nearly everyday is great.
I used to slate this country all the time, but it does have its good points, and wind being one of them.
I have been to some good places throughout Europe and to be honest none have compared to what we have here. Even in this country there are people that have no where to park, crap beach’s to set up on, overcrowding, extorsionate joining fees and council’s that give that give them constant hassle.

At 9pm I was driving along past the green and Lionel had just finnished his session, other kiters were standing around chatting, so I stuck around until 9.45pm. When i got back in the car it dawned on me the importance of our local kite spot.
Some come down have their session and go home, whilst for others it has become a meeting point, a place to relax after a session on the water or land. I occasionally pop down there at some random time of the day to see who is about, and more often than not there will be someone hanging around, either strolling about on the green with their dog or sorting out kite lines, or even just standing up the top by the hut looking out to sea.
As sad as it may sound. For me it is where my social life now resides and I can be as happy just hanging around chatting, landing and launching kites as I can be on the water. Im just glad this is where I kite.

News

The beach patrol told mike the glass’s of a person who got hit by a kite and needed stitch’s to their head and hands. This happened at Goring green, he said as a word of warning that we needed to manage our spot a bit better.

Other Stuff

The Boyz have booked their holiday to Egypt in October, so if you fancied a bit of that then you have missed your chance.

Today on a WSW wind and an out going tide a board was lost just west of the pier. It was found in Lancing and luckily returned to its rightful owner.
There are a lot more guys starting out this year. If your one of them, Mark your board some how with a contact number.

Best bar and lines found contact webcam if you know who’s missing them.

Its been a while since I wrote on here, and so much has changed and happened in the last month.

We went at warp speed as far as the weather is concerned, totally missing out light to moderate winds and straight into hurricane season. There have been some pretty big days and every one is getting some action, I suppose the only ones not benefiting are the ones just starting out and those without small kites.

The last time i wrote on here I was saying how dodgy Lancing is and that not much happens at Goring. Well how wrong I was. There have been a few incidents lately, though I dont know all the facts, this is what i have heard.
Mikey broke his ankle after landing with one foot out of the board.
Dangerous Dave has smashed ribs, but nothing can keep that man at home.
last week a landboarder got dragged into the road, just cuts and bruise.
And today a out of towner got taken away by in ambulance, Pretty cut up.

So take care and check your gear.

OTHER STUFF

Lewis took 2nd at the BKSA in Hunstanton, I think that he is still leading.

If your interested in a session in the sun in October then contact Bigair via the Forum and book a place on a all inclusive kite Holiday with a bunch of woofders. they always have fun.

Well its been a long time commin but its here now, so make the most of it.
The week started on Saturday when a nice sea breeze kicked in around 2pm. Luckily the tide was out and most people went to Lancing for a rockless session, leaving Goring pretty empty. never more than 6 kiters out at a time. Perfect.

I dont know whether people kite at Lancing because its safer or they just dont like the Goring walk of death.
I can understand the latter, but if you think Lancing is safer, then think again.

A low tide at Goring can be pretty dodgy with the flintbeds only inch’s below foot. But if your a sensible kiter you keep to a sensible depth when performing any tricks ( unless your name is Dangerous Dave) You keep an eye on the weather and don’t ride over powered.
You keep an eye on all the other kiters around you, and you know that if trouble hits a fellow kiter will be there to aid you within minutes if possible. Also overcrowding on a low tide just doesn’t happen.

Low Tide @ Lancing with the added bonus of sunshine is a nightmare. Everytime there’s a good wind blowing someone tells me about the incidents they’ve seen, and I feel glad I stayed with the rocks.
It seems that the safety of no rocks and no groins leads people into a false sense of safety as they go out on kites upto 2 sizes to big, crap and old gear, no kite leash’s, short board leash’s, untested safety systems. the list goes on.
On Saturday at Lancing one guy got caught up with Kev Maguire’s kite, Kev quick released whilst the other guy got hauled off down wind by 2 kites and a board caught in the middle. when told by Mikey ( who was trying to save the guy) to quick release the guy responded “I dont know where it is”.
Imagine the outcome if that happened at Goring in 12 inch’s of water.

But dont get me wrong , im not saying that shit never happens here. Its just better when you can trust the guys around you, which reminds me. On Saturday at Goring just after I brought in a board cos a kite went down and wouldn’t relaunch, I crashed after a massive jump, my kite came down and got wrapped, so I quick released but my 5th line was caught, and I got dragged downwind. Jez Got my board and SA Paul towed me in to the shallows ( thanks boyz ) Then SA Paul’s leash broke and his kite went tumbling up and along the beach, Dave rescued that.
A windsurfer got in trouble a long way out. Webcam rigged up and went out but had to get the life guard.
Ok shit does happen here, But I feel safer with the rocks than a load of unfamiliar faces.

So this is a big Thanks to everyone that keeps an eye out and helps when help is needed.

Little News Bits

My Naish Blew up again. hoping Naish will be Honorable and replace or fix it.

A guy ( not local ) got dragged up the beach today ( 18.6 ) I brought his Kite down for him but he was pretty shredded after he tripped then got dragged over a groin then up the beach ripped his wetsuit and took a fair bit of skin from his leg and arm, plenty of blood but he was ok.

Lewis Took 1st place at round 2 of the BKSA comps at Barrow in Scotland. well done.

Theirs more wind to come. Yee Ha.

How long is this going to go on?

This must be one of the longest windless spells I have ever experienced though I amongst others have had some wind by way of the odd sea breeze and road trip. But for those of you that have not been able to capitalize on the North easterlies or sea breezes must be going through hell.

It doesn’t look any better for the next couple of weeks either. Bummer.

There are a few other activities that a few of the Goring kiters are into on the windless weekends, so if you fancy getting out and having a bit of company stick something on the forum.
I know that there a lot of people into their mountain biking throughout the week. Friday nights a few of us longboard down to the Tangerine bar for a few beers. Even Kayaking is getting popular.

Other News

Big Air Mohammad done his first kiteloop backloops on Saturday with some pretty impressive wipe outs.

The Pink Bukeroo has a new hobby, check it out. Moth Flyers Looks like good fun to me.

Airhead are now doing Airush stuff

Im gonna add 2 other catogories to the Forum. Landboarding & Other activities.

Here we go again, more boredom

Well here we are again. Right back where we started 1 month ago.
The sun will come out, the wind will switch back to NE. Bummer.

I waited until today to update so that i could include todays session, which was a bit of a letdown to be honest as 5 days ago it looked like we were gonna get 2 full on days of kiting, but as the week progressed it started to look less likely.
A few of us managed to get out in the gusty conditions, actually I wouldn’t say it was gusty more all over the place, going from mid teens to hi twenties, so there was no ideal size kite to be on.
I was on a 8.5, Big van Paul was on his 13, and there was every size in-between out there as well, but still good to get out at Goring.

Last weekend
People made the effort once again to find wind at other locations as the NE’lys continued to blow.
on Saturday myself and Lewis had it at Whitstable on small kiites for the whole day, that was a hangtime session.
Mike the Glass’s ventured down to St Marys Bay and had a good session on his 11 mtr in the sunshine, though he did say that the drive down was a bit tedious, which is how I felt about it, but still worth a visit.
The ones I know of that went over to Pagham where Jake, Ollie, Andi, Jez and SA Paul. Apparently all having a good session and kiting till late.
Monday I think Lewis was back at Whitstable, while a couple of the guys went back to Pagham.
So it just goes to show there was good sessions to be had if you could be bothered to drive.

The next week is looking pretty grim as it swing s back to NE and very light, so if you’ve got any other hobbies now the time to do them.

I’ll be heading up the downs on my bike over the weekend if anyone is interested in a gentle ride.

Anyone Interested in the Course racing that to be held at Littlehampton has now been moved to Hayling.
See the BKSA site for any info on that.

Hello all

The easterlies are still here and here to stay for a while longer.
and while a lot of you will be getting frustrated with the no wind no play situation, there have been a few of us that made the effort to hunt down some wind over the weekend.

Saturday
Me and Andi travelled over to Whitstable for a session.
The day didnt look very promising, as it was cold wet and only showing an average of around 15 knots. But after a hundred mile drive it was still cold and wet but there where kites on the water, which was a good sign.
After a puke burger we pumped up our 12’s and made our way down to Wankers point.(thats what Lewis said it was called)after 10 minutes the wind came through and we were maxed, so we packed down the biggies and went out on the 8.5, Andi was on a 10mtr Torch.
Lewis had just gone of down wind to kite at a spot called the Street, and the remaining kiters must of got over powered and came in as Me, Andi and 1 other kiter were the only ones out in this semi flat water bay for about 40 minutes. Perfect. We kited for around 2-3 hours then made the journey home.

Sunday
I got the call from Big van Paul to say that he was heading over to St Mary’s Bay Near Rye. I ventured over by myself (traffic was a nightmare)
By the time I arrived the tide was over halfway out, and if you think that it goes out a long way at Goring, your wrong.
On my long trek to the water I passed Instructor Rob and big guy(cant remember name) Paul was already out playing, and 20 minutes later Big air turned up. Paul got the best of the wind as it slowly dropped off and we were left with a long walk back to the car park. (paul had twice the distance though as he was down wind from me and big air, due to the fact that his eyesight aint as good as he’d like it to be, and went to the wrong car park ) sorry paul.
Anyway it was a good day and the sun shone plus Paul had cakes and hot chocolate.

Monday
I was working near Whitstable and I new that Lewis, Aaron and the flexi team including Jason Furness where there and the wind was blowing.
So after work I ventured over but the wind was a bit light, so I wasn’t sure what to do. Jason said I could use some Flexi stuff but chose to go out on my own gear. The wind was to lite for a fatty like me so I came in and sat on the beach and watched the pro’s.

Week Ahead
Anyone interested in checking out some Flexi gear or having a chat with Aaron, Should get over to Airhead on Friday as they will be there demo’ing gear although I dont think it’ll be on the water.
You can also check out his new movie which is an awsome edit. for anyone into editing movies check it out when it comes online. (keep your eye on Aaron’s site for that)

Wind
Looks like the NW’lys are gonna stick around for at least until the end of the month.
The weekend looks like they might pick up enough to make another trip along the coast worthwhile. I’m sure there must be a few of you that would like to make the trip East. If so then say something on the Forum and maybe you could share the fuel cost with someone.

News
I was informed today that Baloos Restaurant by the sailing club ( which was the final hurdle for the Developers) has now been sold to the developers and the go ahead for the new residential flats has been given. Whether this is true or not I dont know, But if you see the cranes and diggers arrive then you’ll know the answer.
